![]() ![]() It is sent to Random House as a protest, but to Ellison’s amazement and chagrin he is offered a $600,000 advance for his “magnificently raw and honest” account. This satiric tale, which is included in Erasure in its entirety, is peopled with stock characters like the perennially scowling thug and the vapid baby mama. Frustrated by his latest novel’s seventh rejection and angered by the success of the street-lit hit We’s Lives in Da Ghetto, Ellison dashes off a novella parodying the “true, gritty real stories of lack life” that he has been advised to write. His work’s engagement with French post-structuralists and ancient Greek literature impresses and baffles reviewers, who wonder what those subjects have to do with the African-American experience. IN PERCIVAL EVERETT’S NOVEL Erasure, Thelonious Ellison is a college professor who writes novels that are more praised than read. ![]() ![]() ![]() That’s what this book was always going to be about.īut then came the issue of structure – in which order should the countries be covered? Geographically? Thematically? By drawing balls out of bowls at UEFA’s headquarters? It immediately became clear that the story wasn’t simply about the different style of each country. It’s about how referees officiate and what the supporters cheer. ![]() It’s about the experiences of a country’s players when moving abroad, and about the success of its imports. It’s not simply about the national side’s characteristics, but about the approach of its dominant clubs, the nature of its star players and the philosophy of its coaches. The primary intention was to analyse the various playing styles that dominate Europe’s seven most influential footballing countries – the Netherlands, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Germany and England – a fairly unarguable septet, based on a combination of recent international performance and the current strength of their domestic leagues.Ī nation’s footballing style is reflected in various ways. Despite this book’s chronological nature, it was not originally intended to be a history of modern European football. ![]() ![]() It's also easy to stack against melee champions. ![]() You don't need to choose +15-90 health and you can go for armor or magic resist. Grasp of the Undying - solid rune that makes Gnar more tanky. ![]() 10% Attack Speed - (can also be additional 5.4 Attack Damage) but I prefer attack speed due to Hyper. Also you don't have to last hit mionions to get health so it's good especially against match ups that harras you hard. Overgrowth is best of these 3 - it gives a bit health so you can live a bit longer. Also if you won't team fight too much and farm hard you can take Legend: Bloodline.Ĭoup de Grace - because this build is more like carry than tank you don't need Last Stand as much as in grasp build.īone Plating helps you especially against poke champs, but generally it's good rune cause it 'tanks' for you a bit of damage. Legend: Alacrity gives you attack speed - this is what you need as attack speed carry gnar. Triumph - I think it's best option out of these three. You don't have true damage since 9.23 but healing and bonus AD is amazing. ![]()

The book, which sometimes appears with the subtitle "The New Pilgrim's Progress", became the best-selling of Twain's works during his lifetime, as well as one of the best-selling travel books of all time. The five-month voyage included numerous side trips on land. Published in 1869, it humorously chronicles what Twain called his "Great Pleasure Excursion" on board the chartered steamship Quaker City (formerly USS Quaker City) through Europe and the Holy Land with a group of American travelers in 1867. The Innocents Abroad, or The New Pilgrims' Progress is a travel book by American author Mark Twain. ![]() ![]() The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County ![]() ![]() The archive is currently still running thanks to charitable donations, ( source) but I still wanted to invest some time in learning more about this important female historical figure, and what better way than by reading her own papers. It then languished on my TBR pile for years until I heard about how the Emma Goldman Archive at UC Berkeley was going to lose its funding ( source). I picked up this essay collection due to my interest in both US and women’s history. You may read more about Emma Goldman and her life here. This book is a collection of a variety of her essays and includes a contemporaneous biographical sketch and preface. ![]() She was deported in 1919 for her antiwar activities and spent the remainder of her life moving among multiple countries. ![]() Emma Goldman was a Russian immigrant to the United States who embraced Anarchism and became an impassioned orator and pioneer in the movement for birth control. ![]() ![]() Aniston, deprived of the Friends eco-system, actually isn't too bad, but close-up on the big screen, I have to say her face needs to be photographed more carefully than it is here: like the late Diana Spencer, she has quite a big asymmetric schnoz on her, and camera angles have to be shrewdly chosen to minimise its occasionally disconcerting mass. Jennifer Aniston is Emily, Chris's helpmeet-cum-girlfriend-cum-manager, naturally destined to be cast temporarily aside in the headlong rush for limitless sex. Yet it's brutally candid about the reality of sex with groupies - which certainly distinguishes it from Cameron Crowe's icky, dishonest Almost Famous. Chris thinks he's living the American Dream, and director Stephen Herek takes that seriously enough for his film to look very different from tongue-in-cheek Spinal Tap satire. ![]() ![]() So when I was able to finally get my own dog, I looked for one that was similar to the character I drew. What inspired the initial creation of MUTTS? Read our interview with McDonnell below to find out how this artist is improving the lives of animals one comic strip at a time. Pet owners everywhere can identify with some of the mischief these two get into, but McDonnell also tells a deeper story of compassion, adoption, environmentalism, and animal advocacy.
